Much like the nomadic coastal tribes for whom the team was named, the members of Team Karankawa share a common love for the Texas coastal waters. The Karankawa Indians thrived along the Texas coast over a century ago. Using dugouts and long bows, they traversed the bays, bayous, and marshland in search of native fish and wildlife. Today we bring the same scaled-down approach to coastal fishing by using kayaks to bring us closer to nature and into some of the most pristine shallow water fisheries along the coast, often inaccessible by power boats.
The team comprises seven saltwater anglers and paddling enthusiasts from the Houston area. Leading manufacturers in both the saltwater fishing and paddling markets such as Malibu Kayaks, Laguna Rods, Mann's Baits, Gear Keepers, Riverz,
and Rockport Rattlers trust the team members to showcase their products.
We compete as a team and as individuals in many local and national fishing tournaments every year, always using kayaks as the preferred mode of transportation. Our team accomplishments include a 1st place finish in the American Rodsmith's Bolivar Tournament and a 3rd place finish in the Galveston leg of Extreme Edge Kayak Fishing Tournament Series. The team is also interested in helping to maintain clean and healthy coastal waters and has participated in several beach and bayou cleanups. Please refer to our calendar for upcoming tournaments and related events. |
